More American households are being run by single women than ever before. With mouths to feed, a home to maintain, and a career to manage, it can be challenging for women to also maintain the household finances. But with wage inequality still present, and about half of marriages ending in divorce, it is crucial that women feel empowered to control the household finances. Our special guests today are two powerful women who talk about this stuff all the time! Ellie Morrison and Satchie Seidlits are the hosts of Worth Control, a podcast show focused on helping women live their very best lives. From mastering a career to maintaining successful relationships, these two are helping women feel strong and in control. Today, we are going to take this conversation to finance. High level topics that came from our discussion were:
  • How a woman’s protective instincts can benefit their ability to manage household finances
  • The importance of being included in financial conversations
  • Options for women who simply can’t have money conversations with their spouse

Enjoy this refreshing episode, highlighting the impact women have on the household.

Fiesta Finances!

What would you do with an extra $10,000? And what SHOULD you do with it?

April was financial literacy month AND Fiesta for San Antonians. So I took to the streets at the Battle of the Flowers to ask the people what they would do with $10,000.

I asked a variety of fun and interesting San Antonians what their 18 year old self would do with the extra windfall money and then what they should do with it.

There were three themes that came out of his discussion:
  • Instant gratification versus delayed gratification
  • Too many credit cards
  • Student Debt

Enjoy this fun and colorful episode showcasing the wit and humor of San Antonians (and the funky hats!)

The expense of a wedding can not only follow you for years, it can literally ruin your marriage!
How you make wedding decisions and how you deal with the money questions as a couple is a barometer for how your marriage will go.

I talked with Wedding Planner Jordan Maney of www.allthedaysweddings.com and her experiences in planning weddings.

We discuss:
  • The difference between Bride-CHILLAZ and Bride-ZILLAZ!
  • Why Jordan perfers Bride-CHILLAZ
  • The three conversations she has with couples
  • How to make important decisions in your wedding planning
  • What to avoid when planning your wedding

Managing your finances as a married couple

7/30/2018

Financial stress is the leading cause of divorce in America.
Marriage is an ancient and important institution, but as a financial advisor, I’ve learned that most couples don’t really discuss finances with one another. If they do talk about finances, it can lead to many uncomfortable (and sometimes scary) revelations.

I spoke with Marco and Hillary Romero of @hilcohomes about how they navigated the stress of their financial decisions as they build a marriage and a growing family.
In this episode:
  • See how The Romeros both decided to quit their secure jobs while still on their honeymoon!
  • How they manage their individual financial accounts
  • The Romero “Reward” system for each partner to accumulate points in order to buy the “non-essentials” they desire
  • Dealing with variability in income
  • How they talk about and stay on top of their goals
  • How they think about budgeting
  • The books that helped them organize their love life and financial life.
